YORKTOWN, NY - Yorktown, a Westchester hotbed for sports of all kinds, has a new ball field open for business, and soccer, baseball and lacrosse fans alike are already rejoicing.

The state-of-the-art Legacy Field complex opened yesterday, with the help of the county and the Town of Yorktown, after 10 years of planning, construction and $6 million.

Jim Hackett, of Shrub Oak, who has coached Little League baseball in the area for some 12 years, says he can't wait to get his kids running the bases on the new all-weather, multi-purpose fields, complete with lights and a traditional Little League field.

County Executive Rob Astorino hailed the completion of the ball fields, saying that it's time for people in the area to pick up a ball and play on an open field like we "used to do."
